What is a PBA?

Prescribed Burn Associations (PBA) are groups of landowners and other interested parties who form partnerships to pool their knowledge, resources, and equipment to conduct prescribed fires.

The biggest limitation for landowners applying fire to the ground is a lack of experience and resources. The Prescribed Burn Association helps to pool the experience needed to safe lt conduct prescribed burns as well as providing the resources to carry out the burn

Prescribed fire is the intentional application of fire under specific environmental conditions and parameters. This is conducted in a manner to accomplish a certain set of management objectives and ecological goals of the fire listed in the prescription for the burn.

Prescribed fire is intended to mimic a natural process. It is a natural and necessary component of many ecosystems that are spread throughout the Southeast.

Periodic fire is required for the regeneration and growth of fire-dependent species. A reduction in the amount of forest land across the Southeast had led to a decline in many different wildlife species.

The use of prescribed fire in these pyrogenic ecosystems helps to maintain the natural ecosystems and provide better quality wildlife habitat for these species
